Þessi lög kveða á um fullkominn aðskilnað ríkisins og kirkjunnar á Íslandi og setja nýjar reglur um starfsemi allra trú- og lífsskoðunarfélaga. Lögin hafa áhrif á þjóðkirkjuna, önnur trúfélög og lífsskoðunarfélög sem og sambandið þeirra við ríkisvaldið.
This law establishes complete separation between the state and church in Iceland and creates new comprehensive legislation governing the activities of religious and life-stance organizations. The law affects the National Church, other religious organizations, life-stance associations, and their relationship with state authorities.
