Þessi lög skilgreina lögbundin verkefni Geislavarna ríkisins, sem er stofnun sem hefur umsjón með geislunarvörnum á Íslandi. Lögin hafa áhrif á alla sem starfa með geislandi efni eða búnað og almenning sem gæti orðið fyrir geislun.
