Þessi lög kveða á um skylduverkefni og lagalegar skyldur safna á Íslandi. Lögin hafa áhrif á öll opinber og einkasöfn sem starfa í landinu og skilgreina þau verkefni sem þau þurfa að uppfylla samkvæmt lögum.
