Þessi lög kveða á um skyldu til tryggingar lífeyrisréttinda starfsmanna og setja reglur um starfsemi lífeyrissjóða. Lögin hafa áhrif á alla launþega og vinnuveitendur á Íslandi sem þurfa að greiða í lífeyrissjóði.
