Almannatryggingalögin kveða á um félagslegt tryggingakerfi Íslands sem veitir öllum íbúum landsins grunnvernd gegn tekjumissi og heilbrigðiskostnaði. Lögin ná til allra sem búa á Íslandi og skapa rétt til lífeyris, sjúkratryggingar og félagslegra bóta.
