Almannatryggingalögin setja fram kerfi félagslegrar öryggis sem veitir öllum íbúum Íslands grunntryggingu gegn tekjumissi og hjálp við lækniskostnað. Lögin ná til allra sem eru lögheimilisskráðir á Íslandi og stofna til réttar til elli-, örorku- og atvinnuleysisbóta ásamt sjúkratryggingum.
The social security law establishes a comprehensive social safety net that provides all residents of Iceland with basic protection against income loss and assistance with medical expenses. The law covers everyone legally residing in Iceland and creates entitlements to old-age, disability, and unemployment benefits as well as health insurance coverage.
