Þessi lög innleiða samning Sameinuðu þjóðanna um réttindi fatlaðs fólks í íslenska löggjöf. Lögin tryggja að fatlað fólk á Íslandi njóti sömu mannréttinda og annað fólk og fái jafnan aðgang að þjónustu og tækifærum.
This law implements the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities into Icelandic legislation. The law ensures that people with disabilities in Iceland enjoy the same human rights as others and receive equal access to services and opportunities.
