Þessi lög banna olíuleit og könnun á olíuauðlindum á íslenskri lögsögu. Lögin hafa áhrif á olíufélög, rannsóknarfyrirtæki og alla aðra sem vilja stunda könnun eða vinnslu á jarðolíu á Íslandi.
