Sóttvarnalög setja reglur um varnir gegn smitsjúkdómum og heimila yfirvöldum að grípa til ráðstafana til að koma í veg fyrir útbreiðslu sótta. Lögin hafa áhrif á alla einstaklinga og stofnanir á Íslandi þegar hætta er á smitsjúkdómsútbreiðslu.
The Epidemic Prevention Act establishes rules for protection against infectious diseases and authorizes authorities to take measures to prevent the spread of epidemics. The law affects all individuals and institutions in Iceland when there is a risk of infectious disease outbreak.
