Lögin afnema stimpilgjald af skjölum sem varða kaup og sölu á skipum yfir 5 brúttótonnum. Áður þurftu kaupendur og seljendur skipa að greiða sérstakt gjald við eigendaskipti, en þetta gjald er nú fellt niður að öllu leyti. Breytingin er ætluð til að bæta rekstrarumhverfi skipaútgerðar á Íslandi og gera það hagstæðara að eiga og versla með skip hér á landi.
This law eliminates stamp duty on documents related to the transfer of ownership of ships over 5 gross tons. Previously, buyers and sellers of ships had to pay a special fee when ownership changed hands, but this fee is now completely removed. The change is intended to improve the business environment for ship operations in Iceland and make it more favorable to own and trade ships in the country.
