Lögin einfalda regluverk og stjórnsýslu á sviði sjávarútvegs, fiskeldis og lax- og silungsveiði með því að breyta nokkrum lögum í einu. Meðal breytinga eru uppfærð hnit fyrir fiskveiðilandhelgismörk Íslands og breyting á reglum um leyfileg veiðarfæri, þar sem dragnót er felld út úr tilteknum ákvæðum og einungis botnvarpa og flotvarpa nefnd. Lögin hafa áhrif á alla sem stunda fiskveiðar, fiskeldi eða lax- og silungsveiði á Íslandi, auk stjórnvalda sem hafa eftirlit með greininni. Markmið laganna er að gera regluverk skýrara og stjórnsýslu hagkvæmari.
This law simplifies regulations and administration in the fields of fisheries, aquaculture, and salmon and trout fishing by amending several laws at once. Among the changes are updated coordinates for Iceland's fishery jurisdiction limits and modifications to rules on permitted fishing gear, removing drag nets from certain provisions and referring only to bottom trawls and pelagic trawls. The law affects all those engaged in fishing, aquaculture, or salmon and trout fishing in Iceland, as well as the authorities responsible for oversight of the industry. The aim is to make regulations clearer and administration more efficient.
