Lögin breyta núverandi lögum um svæðisbundna flutningsjöfnun með því að bæta við nýju kerfi styrkja fyrir olíuvörur. Byggðastofnun mun nú veita styrki til söluaðila eldsneytisstöðva á afskekktum svæðum til að jafna flutningskostnað á bensíni, dísilolíu og öðrum olíuvörum. Markmiðið er að tryggja framboð olíuvara á svæðum sem búa við skerta samkeppnisstöðu vegna fjarlægðar og lítils mannfjölda. Styrkjunum er ætlað að koma í stað fyrra flutningsjöfnunarsjóðs olíuvara.
This law amends the existing regional transport equalization law by adding a new subsidy system for petroleum products. The Regional Development Institute (Byggðastofnun) will now provide subsidies to fuel station operators in remote areas to equalize transport costs for gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products. The goal is to ensure the availability of petroleum products in areas with weakened competitive position due to geographic distance and low population density. The subsidies are intended to replace the former petroleum products transport equalization fund.
