Lögin breyta sjúklingatryggingalöggjöfinni til að tryggja bótarétt fólks sem bólusett er gegn COVID-19 á Íslandi á árunum 2021-2023. Þeir sem fá skaða vegna eiginleika bóluefnisins eða rangrar meðhöndlunar þess eiga rétt á bótum frá Sjúkratryggingum Íslands, að því gefnu að notað sé bóluefni sem íslensk heilbrigðisyfirvöld mæla með. Þetta víkur frá venjulegum reglum sjúklingatrygginga og á sérstaklega við um COVID-19 bólusetningar. Markmiðið er að styrkja réttarstöðu þeirra sem taka bólusetningu í þágu almannaheilsu.
This law amends patient insurance legislation to guarantee compensation rights for people vaccinated against COVID-19 in Iceland during 2021-2023. Those who suffer harm due to the vaccine's properties or improper handling receive compensation from Iceland Health Insurance, provided the vaccine is recommended by Icelandic health authorities. This deviates from standard patient insurance rules and applies specifically to COVID-19 vaccinations. The aim is to strengthen the legal position of those who get vaccinated in the interest of public health.
