This law extends temporary provisions originally enacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. District commissioners, police, and courts are authorized to continue using electronic solutions and remote meeting technology for handling civil cases, criminal cases, estate settlements, and inheritance matters until the end of 2023 instead of 2021. Additionally, the Court of Appeals is permitted to maintain its seat outside Reykjavík until 2027 instead of 2022, as permanent housing arrangements for the court are still being worked on. The law affects anyone dealing with courts and district commissioners.
