Lögin veita sjálfkrafa rétt til gjafsóknar fyrir þá sem höfða einkamál vegna kynferðisbrota og sambærilegs ofbeldis. Gjafsóknin nær til allra þriggja dómsþrepa (héraðsdómur, Landsréttur og Hæstiréttur) þegar stefnandi krefst bóta vegna brota eins og nauðgunar, kynferðisofbeldis, barnaníðs og mansals sem lögregla hefur rannsakað. Gjafsóknarnefnd tekur ákvörðun um hvort veita eigi gjafsókn miðað við hvort málstaður stefnanda gefi nægilegt tilefni. Lögin tóku gildi 1. júní 2023.
This law grants automatic legal aid (free litigation) to plaintiffs who file civil lawsuits for compensation related to sexual offenses and similar violence. The legal aid covers all three court levels (district court, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court) when the plaintiff seeks damages for offenses such as rape, sexual violence, child abuse, and human trafficking that have been investigated by police. The Legal Aid Committee decides whether to grant legal aid based on whether the plaintiff's case has sufficient merit. The law came into effect on June 1, 2023.
