Lögin auka eftirlit Fiskistofu með fiskveiðum og aflaskýrslugerð. Eftirlitsmenn Fiskistofu fá aðgang að rafrænum vöktunarkerfum í löndunarhöfnum til að fylgjast með löndun afla, og skipstjórar verða að senda aflaupplýsingar stafrænt áður en veiðiferð lýkur. Ef aðilar vanrækja að veita nauðsynlegar upplýsingar getur Fiskistofa lagt á dagsektir sem geta verið frá 10 þúsund til 1 milljón króna á dag. Lögin taka til allra sem stunda atvinnuveiðar og eiga að skila upplýsingum til Fiskistofu.
This law strengthens the Directorate of Fisheries' oversight of fishing activities and catch reporting. Inspectors from the Directorate gain access to electronic monitoring systems in landing ports to supervise fish landings, and ship captains must submit catch information digitally before the end of each fishing trip. If parties fail to provide required information, the Directorate can impose daily fines ranging from 10,000 to 1 million ISK per day. The law applies to all commercial fishing operators who are required to report information to the Directorate of Fisheries.
