Lögin setja reglur um fjarskipti, fjarskiptaþjónustu og fjarskiptanet á Íslandi. Markmið þeirra er að tryggja örugg og hagkvæm fjarskipti, auka vernd neytenda og styðja við samkeppni á fjarskiptamarkaði. Fjarskiptastofa hefur umsjón með framkvæmd laganna, þar á meðal notkun tíðnirófs, og íslenska ríkið skal stuðla að því að allir landsmenn og fyrirtæki hafi aðgang að fjarskiptaþjónustu og háhraðanetum. Lögin gilda ekki um efni sem sent er á fjarskiptanetum né fjarskipti innan einstakra húsakynna.
This law establishes regulations for telecommunications, telecommunications services, and telecommunications networks in Iceland. Its purpose is to ensure accessible, efficient, and secure telecommunications, strengthen consumer protection, and promote competition in the telecommunications market. The Post and Telecom Administration oversees implementation of the law, including frequency spectrum management, and the Icelandic state shall promote access to telecommunications services and high-speed networks for all citizens and businesses. The law does not apply to content transmitted over telecommunications networks or to communications within individual premises.
