Lögin fresta framkvæmd tiltekinna ákvæða í barnaverndarlögum sem höfðu tekið gildi með lögum nr. 107/2021. Þau ákvæði sem fjalla um nýja barnaverndarþjónustu og umdæmisráð barnaverndar koma ekki til framkvæmda fyrr en 1. janúar 2023. Á meðan halda barnaverndarnefndir sveitarfélaga umboði sínu og gegna þeim verkefnum sem ætluð voru nýju barnaverndarþjónustunni og umdæmisráðunum, þar með talið að taka ákvarðanir og úrskurða í barnaverndarmálum. Lögin tryggja samfellda barnavernd á umbreytingartímanum eftir sveitarstjórnarkosningar 2022.
This law postpones the implementation of certain provisions in the Child Protection Act that were enacted through Act No. 107/2021. The provisions concerning new child protection services and regional child protection councils will not take effect until January 1, 2023. In the meantime, municipal child protection committees will retain their authority and continue to perform the tasks intended for the new child protection services and regional councils, including making decisions and rulings in child protection cases. The law ensures continuity in child protection during the transition period following the 2022 municipal elections.
