Lögin sameina Orkusjóð og Loftslagssjóð í einn sjóð sem nefnist Loftslags- og orkusjóður. Nýi sjóðurinn mun styrkja bæði orkuskipti og nýsköpunarverkefni í loftslagsmálum, þar með talið verkefni sem draga úr losun gróðurhúsalofttegunda, efla hringrásarhagkerfið og auka kolefnisbindingu. Sjóðurinn veitir einnig beina styrki, til dæmis til kaupa á rafbílum og til jarðhitaleitar. Breytingin tók gildi 1. júlí 2024 og Loftslagssjóður sem sérstakur sjóður var lagður niður.
This law merges the Energy Fund and the Climate Fund into a single fund called the Climate and Energy Fund. The new fund will support both energy transitions and innovation projects in climate matters, including projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote circular economy, and increase carbon sequestration. The fund also provides direct grants, such as subsidies for purchasing electric vehicles and for geothermal exploration. The change took effect on July 1, 2024, and the Climate Fund as a separate entity was dissolved.
