Þessi lög veita sveitarfélögum tímabundið framlag úr ríkissjóði á árunum 2024-2027 til að bjóða öllum grunnskólanemendum gjaldfrjálsar skólamáltíðir. Framlagið rennur í gegnum Jöfnunarsjóð sveitarfélaga og skiptist hlutfallslega eftir nemendafjölda í hverju sveitarfélagi. Ef sveitarfélag ákveður að taka gjald fyrir máltíðir þrátt fyrir að hafa fengið framlagið, þarf það að endurgreiða peningana til ríkissjóðs. Skipaður verður starfshópur til að meta áhrif framlagsins á jöfnuð og fátækt meðal barna, með niðurstöður fyrst væntanlegar árið 2025.
This law provides municipalities with temporary state funding for the years 2024-2027 to offer free school meals to all elementary school students. The funding flows through the Municipal Equalization Fund and is distributed proportionally based on the number of students in each municipality. If a municipality decides to charge for meals despite receiving the funding, it must repay the money to the state treasury. A working group will be appointed to evaluate the impact of the funding on equality and child poverty, with results expected by 2025.
