Lögin heimila ríkisstjórninni að samþykkja hækkun á framlagi Íslands til Alþjóðagjaldeyrissjóðsins úr 321,8 milljónum SDR í 482,7 milljónir SDR, sem er 50% hækkun. Þetta er hluti af sextándu almennu endurskoðun sjóðsins þar sem kvótar allra aðildarríkja hækka. Seðlabanki Íslands leggur fram þá fjármuni sem þarf til hækkunarinnar. Hærri kvóti eykur lánagetu Íslands hjá sjóðnum og atkvæðavægi landsins innan hans.
This law authorizes the Icelandic government to approve an increase in Iceland's quota contribution to the International Monetary Fund from 321.8 million SDR to 482.7 million SDR, representing a 50% increase. This is part of the IMF's sixteenth general quota review affecting all member countries. The Central Bank of Iceland will provide the necessary funds for the quota increase. A higher quota increases Iceland's borrowing capacity from the fund and strengthens the country's voting power within it.
