Lögin breyta þingsköpum Alþingis og kveða á um að starfandi forseti Alþingis skuli kalla saman níu manna undirbúningsnefnd eftir alþingiskosningar til að rannsaka kjörgögn og undirbúa þingsetningarfund. Nefndin fær víðtækar rannsóknarheimildir, þar á meðal að kalla eftir upplýsingum frá stjórnvöldum, boða aðila á fund, telja atkvæði og ráða sér sérfræðiaðstoð. Lögin framlengja einnig starfstíma framtíðarnefndar sem kjörin var eftir kosningar 30. nóvember 2024 til 31. desember 2025. Breytingarnar taka þegar gildi og hafa áhrif á málsmeðferð Alþingis eftir kosningar.
The law amends the parliamentary procedures of the Icelandic Parliament (Alþingi) by establishing that the acting speaker must convene a nine-member preparatory committee after parliamentary elections to investigate election documents and prepare for the inaugural session. The committee is granted extensive investigative powers, including requesting information from authorities, summoning parties to meetings, recounting votes, and hiring expert assistance. The law also extends the term of a futures committee elected after the November 30, 2024 elections until December 31, 2025. The changes take immediate effect and impact parliamentary procedures following elections.
