Lögin breyta reglum um námsmat í grunnskólum. Samræmd könnunarpróf verða skyldubundin og haldin að lágmarki einu sinni á hverju skólastigi í íslensku og stærðfræði. Tilgangurinn er að fá samanburðarhæfar upplýsingar um námsárangur einstakra nemenda, skóla og sveitarfélaga. Mennta- og barnamálaráðherra birtir reglulega ópersónugreinanlegar upplýsingar um stöðu skólastarfsins og Miðstöð menntunar og skólaþjónustu útvegar grunnskólum matstæki til að fylgjast með námi nemenda.
This law amends the rules on student assessment in compulsory schools (grades 1-10). Standardized assessments become mandatory and must be conducted at least once per school level in Icelandic and mathematics. The purpose is to provide comparable information about the academic performance of individual students, schools, and municipalities. The Minister of Education regularly publishes anonymized information about the state of education, and the Centre for Education and School Services provides schools with assessment tools to monitor student learning.
