Lögin gera ráðherra kleift að setja reglugerð um sérstaka menntun og þjálfun fyrir áhafnir björgunarskipa Slysavarnafélagsins Landsbjargar. Námskrá og kennarar þurfa að fá samþykki Samgöngustofu sem hefur eftirlit með námi. Þetta sérnám gildir eingöngu til starfa um borð í björgunarskipum Landsbjargar og á við um skipstjórn og vélgæslu á þessum skipum sem gegna sérhæfðu hlutverki. Breytingin var nauðsynleg til að leysa vanda við mönnun nýrra björgunarskipa eftir að eldri lög um áhafnir féllu úr gildi árið 2023.
The law allows the minister to set regulations for specialized education and training for crews on rescue vessels operated by ICE-SAR (the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue). The curriculum and instructors must be approved by the Icelandic Transport Authority, which oversees the training. This specialized training is valid only for work aboard ICE-SAR rescue vessels and applies to navigation and engine operation on these vessels that serve a specialized role. The amendment was necessary to solve staffing problems for new rescue vessels after older crew laws were repealed in 2023.
