This law protects the rights of people with disabilities and ensures they receive support in decision-making and in asserting their rights against authorities and others. The law establishes rules for when and how coercion may be used in services for people with disabilities, such as remote monitoring or other restrictions, requiring such measures only when absolutely necessary. People with disabilities have the right to a personal spokesperson who assists with decision-making and to a rights protection service that provides support and guidance. The law also applies to people with chronic illnesses or injury consequences who need similar support, and implements the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
