Lögin breyta starfskjörum og skipulagi í kringum embætti forseta Íslands. Forsetaritari fær fimm ára skipun í stað varanlegrar ráðningar, og laun hans eru föst með árlegri uppfærslu. Heimild er sköpuð til að ráða aðstoðarmann forseta sem fær 75% af launum forsetaritara og á rétt á biðlaunum í þrjá mánuði eftir starfslok. Þóknun þeirra sem gegna forsetaembættinu í fjarveru forseta er lækkuð í 300.000 kr. á ári, og forsætisráðherra fær heimild til að setja reglur um öryggi æðstu stjórnar ríkisins.
This law reforms the working conditions and organizational structure of the Office of the President of Iceland. The presidential secretary receives a five-year appointment instead of permanent employment, with fixed monthly salary that is updated annually. A new presidential assistant position is created, earning 75% of the secretary's salary with entitlement to three months' severance pay. The compensation for those who hold the presidential office in the president's absence is reduced to 300,000 ISK annually, and the Prime Minister gains authority to set security rules for the highest leadership of the state.
