This law changes the rules for serving prison sentences for inmates who are to be deported from Iceland after completing their sentence. These inmates no longer receive certain privileges such as open prison conditions or conditional release at the standard time if a deportation order is in place. However, temporarily until July 1, 2027, such inmates may be granted conditional release after serving one-third of their sentence instead of having to wait longer. The law takes effect immediately and applies to all sentences already being served or received by the Prison and Probation Administration before July 1, 2027.
