This law adds provisions for wind power projects to Iceland's protection and energy utilization plan. Wind power facilities with installed capacity of 10 MW or more, or where turbine structures exceed 30 meters in height, now fall under the plan. The Environment Agency is required to begin preparing protected areas approved by Parliament for designation, and if no agreement is reached with landowners and municipalities within five years, the minister must designate the area. When evaluating wind power projects, consideration must be given to local government positions, impact on electricity security and transmission systems, effects on employment and regional development, and whether the project is on already disturbed land or within the highlands.
