This law authorizes the Icelandic Nature Conservation Agency to charge fees for services at protected areas and national parks, such as parking, toilets, and camping sites, and for monitoring construction projects that the agency has permitted. The fees are intended to cover costs for infrastructure development, maintenance, and operation of protected natural areas. The law also changes the composition of national park regional boards by ensuring better representation from municipalities, nature conservation and outdoor recreation organizations, and grants tourism industry representatives observer status. Appeals of Nature Conservation Agency decisions go to the Environment and Natural Resources Appeals Board, which issues final administrative decisions.
