Hafdís Hrönn Hafsteinsdóttir is an Icelandic lawyer and politician who served as a Member of Parliament for the South Constituency representing the Progressive Party from 2021 to 2024. Born in Ísafjörður in 1991, she completed a Master of Laws degree from Bifröst University in 2017. During her parliamentary term, she focused on issues related to legal protections, equality, and support for victims of violence. Before entering Parliament, Hafdís Hrönn worked as a lawyer for the committee overseeing the police and as a committee secretary in the Parliamentary Committee Division. She has been actively involved in civil society work in the areas of human rights and victim services, including serving as chair of the United Nations Association of Iceland and participating in the project management of Sigurhæðir, a service center for victims of violence in South Iceland. Although she lost her parliamentary seat in the 2024 elections, she has left her mark on Icelandic politics as an advocate for just solutions and protection of vulnerable groups.
Hafdís Hrönn Hafsteinsdóttir began her career as a lawyer with the committee overseeing the police in 2018, where she worked until 2019. In that position, she handled public complaints regarding police actions and other government authorities, work that required precision and understanding of legal protections. In 2019, she took up a position as committee secretary in the Parliamentary Committee Division, where she gained insight into parliamentary procedures and legislative work. In 2020, Hafdís Hrönn returned to the committee overseeing the police as a lawyer and worked there until 2021, when she was elected to Parliament. Her professional experience in oversight roles and as a support for parliamentary work provided her with solid knowledge of the legal system and public administration, which served her well as a legislator.
