Member of the Icelandic Parliament — Samfylkingin
Ása Berglind Hjálmarsdóttir is a member of the Icelandic Parliament for the Social Democratic Alliance representing the Southern Constituency since 2024. She has dedicated her career to cultural affairs and music, both as a teacher, musician and manager of cultural projects. With a diverse background in music education, cultural management and project management, she has been instrumental in strengthening cultural life in Southern Iceland and beyond.
Ása Berglind's career in the cultural sector is diverse and extensive. She worked as a music teacher at the Árnes Music School from 2004 to 2014 and again from 2020 to 2022, while also teaching music education at Þorlákshöfn Primary School during the same periods. She was a concert organizer and agent for musicians from 2013 to 2022, and also served as marketing and project manager at Gamla bíó from 2014 to 2016 and at Stúdíó Sýrland from 2018 to 2019. She conducted the School Orchestra of Árbær and Breiðholt as a substitute from 2016 to 2017. From 2019 to 2022, Ása Berglind worked as project manager for the cultural department of Ölfus municipality, where she led various cultural projects for the community. In 2021, she founded Skjálftinn, a talent competition for young people in primary schools in Southern Iceland, which she directed until 2024. From 2022 to 2024, she served as program development project manager at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre. She also served on the Ölfus municipal council from 2022 to 2025 before taking her seat in Parliament.
