Ingibjörg Davíðsdóttir is a Member of Parliament for the Centre Party representing the Northwest Constituency since 2024. She brings extensive experience from Iceland's foreign service, having served in diverse roles on the international stage for over twenty years before entering parliament. Among her most prominent positions was her service as Iceland's Ambassador to Norway and Greece from 2019 to 2022, while also being appointed Ambassador to Egypt, Iran, and Pakistan during the same period. Prior to becoming an ambassador, Ingibjörg held numerous key positions within the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, including serving as advisor to the Prime Minister on foreign affairs and as head of the human rights and equality division. She also worked at Iceland's permanent missions in Geneva, Vienna, and London, and served as campaign manager for Iceland's bid for a seat on UNESCO's executive board. In 2024, Ingibjörg founded the Icelandic Food Cluster and serves as its chair. She was born in Akranes and grew up in a political environment, as both her parents were active in politics. With her education in political science and international relations and extensive experience in international negotiations and human rights matters, Ingibjörg brings specialized expertise to the Althingi. She has been on leave from the foreign service since 2023 to fulfill her parliamentary duties. She has one daughter, Alexandra Mist Árnadóttir.
Ingibjörg Davíðsdóttir began her career in Iceland's foreign service in 1999 as a secretary at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and moved to Geneva the following year, where she worked at Iceland's permanent mission until 2005. There she gained experience in the work of international organizations and multilateral cooperation. She then returned to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Reykjavík, where she worked as a counsellor on political and security affairs from 2005 to 2009, before being appointed head of the human rights and equality division in 2009. From 2010 to 2014, Ingibjörg served as counsellor and deputy head of mission at Iceland's embassy and permanent mission in Vienna, where she handled matters related to international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency. She then moved to London in 2014, where she held a similar role at Iceland's embassy until 2015. In 2015, she was appointed advisor to the Prime Minister on foreign affairs, providing counsel on policy formulation in foreign affairs and security matters until 2018. She was formally appointed ambassador on 1 January 2016. From 2018 to 2019, Ingibjörg served as campaign manager for Iceland's bid for a seat on UNESCO's executive board, leading the country's successful campaign. In 2019, she was appointed Iceland's Ambassador to Norway and concurrently Ambassador to Greece based in Oslo, as well as accredited Ambassador to Egypt, Iran, and Pakistan, though the COVID-19 pandemic prevented her from travelling to present her credentials. She held these positions until 2022 and has been on leave from the foreign service since 2023 to fulfill her parliamentary duties. She founded the Icelandic Food Cluster in 2024 and serves as its chair. Throughout her career, she has served on various committees on behalf of or for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, including the refugee committee and the national committee on humanitarian law.
