Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að Akureyri verði formlega útnefnd sem miðstöð norðurslóðamála á Íslandi. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að Akureyri hefur í raun þegar þróast í þetta hlutverk, með mörgum stærri stofnunum og rannsóknarmidstöðvum sem starfa þar, en það hefur aldrei verið opinberlega staðfest. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu yfirvöld formlega viðurkenna Akureyri sem aðalborg norðurslóðamála og myndu leggja meiri áherslu á að styrkja og þróa allt sem tengist norðurslóðum á Akureyri. Utanríkisráðherra myndi einnig þurfa að koma með áætlun um hvernig betta væri hægt að framfylgja og styrkja þessa starfsemi.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that Akureyri be formally designated as the center for Arctic affairs in Iceland. The resolution was put forward because Akureyri has already become this hub in practice, with many major institutions and research centers operating there, but it has never been officially recognized. If the resolution passes, authorities would formally acknowledge Akureyri's role as the capital of Arctic affairs and would prioritize strengthening and developing everything related to the Arctic in Akureyri. The Foreign Minister would also be required to present a plan for how this could be implemented and how Arctic activities in the city could be better supported.
