Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leitar heimildar Alþingis til að Ísland geti samþykkt nýjar reglur frá Evrópusambandinu um vísitölur og fjármálaþjónustu. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að Noregur og Liechtenstein vilja að þessar nýju reglur gildi á sama tíma og í ES-löndum, það er frá 1. janúar 2020. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu nýjar reglur um fjármálaþjónustu og neytendavernd koma til framkvæmda hér á Íslandi, sem gerir okkur jafnari öðrum Evrópuríkjum hvað varðar fjármálakerfið. Breytingin myndi ekki gera breytingar á meginreglum EES-samningsins, heldur færi hún inn nýjar tæknilegar reglur sem Ísland ber skylda til að fylgja.
This parliamentary resolution seeks permission from the Icelandic Parliament for Iceland to accept new rules from the European Union concerning financial indices and financial services. The resolution was put forward because Norway and Liechtenstein want these new rules to come into effect at the same time as in EU countries, on January 1, 2020. If passed, new rules about financial services and consumer protection would be implemented in Iceland, bringing us in line with other European countries regarding the financial system. The change would not alter the fundamental principles of the EEA Agreement, but would incorporate new technical rules that Iceland is obligated to follow.
