Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felst í því að skipa starfshóp sem á að leggja fram tillögur um lög sem myndu leyfa Hagstofu Íslands að safna nákvæmum gögnum um hvar störf í landinu eru staðsett. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að Ísland skortir gód gögn um dreifingu starfa, ólíkt flestum öðrum Evrópulöndum og Norður-Ameríku, og það á erfitt með að gefa réttar upplýsingar um hversu margir starfi í hverjum stað og hvernig fólk ferðast milli heimilis og vinnu. Gögn um starfsdreifingu eru nauðsynleg til að geta tekið betri ákvarðanir um samgöngur og byggðaþróun. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu skipulagshópar og fagaðilar geta notað þau sömu raunverulegu gögn og önnur lönd, í stað þess að giska með óbeinum aðferðum eins og að telja fermetra atvinnuhúsnæðis.
