Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felur í sér að umhverfis- og auðlindaráðherra á að kanna hvort hægt væri að byggja hátæknisorpbrennslustöð á Íslandi. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að magn úrgangs hér á landi fer vaxandi og flestir hluti hans endar á urðunarstöðum, sem getur meint grunnvötn og eyðilagt dýrðlegt land. Þess í stað væru hægt að brenna sorpinn með sérstökri tækni og nota varmann sem myndast til orkuframleiðslu, eins og gert er í mörgum Evrópuríkjum. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu niðurstöður könnunarinnar berast Alþingi fyrir apríl 2020 og myndu sýna hvort slík stöð væri hagkvæm fyrir Ísland.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that the environment and natural resources minister investigate the feasibility of building a high-tech waste incinerator in Iceland. The proposal was put forward because the amount of waste in Iceland is growing and most of it ends up in landfills, which can contaminate groundwater and waste valuable land. Instead, waste could be burned using special technology and the heat produced could be used for energy generation, as is done in many European countries. If the resolution passes, the results of the investigation would be presented to Parliament by April 2020 and would show whether such a facility would be economically viable for Iceland.
