Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að breyta lögum um tæknifrjóvgun svo að börn sem fædd eru með hjálp gefins eggs eða sæðis hafi rétt á að vita hverjir gjafarnir eru. Fyrir vikið er þetta rétt ekki til staðar ef gjafinn óskar sér nafnleyndar, sem hefur leitt til þess að mörg börn geta ekki fengið þessar upplýsingar þó það væru mikilvægt fyrir þau. Flutningsmenn tillögunnar segja að það sé ósanngjarnt að neita börnum þessum um þekking á uppruna sínum bara til að fleiri myndu gefa kynfrumur. Tillagan byggist á rannsóknum sem sýna að börn sem vita ekki um uppruna sinn geta þjáðst sálarlega og að það er mikilvægara að virða rétt barnsins en að bæta framboð kynfruma. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu lögin breytast þannig að börn myndu alltaf eiga rétt á að fá nafn og upplýsingar um gjafann, nema þeirri nánari vernd væri komið á með öðrum hætti.
This parliamentary resolution proposes changing the laws on fertility treatment so that children born from donated eggs or sperm have the right to know who the donors are. Currently, this right does not exist if the donor wishes to remain anonymous, which means many children cannot get this information even though it would be important to them. The sponsors of the resolution argue that it is unfair to deny children knowledge of their origins just to encourage more people to donate genetic material. The resolution is based on research showing that children who don't know their origins can suffer emotionally, and that respecting the child's rights is more important than increasing the supply of donations. If passed, the law would change so that children would always have the right to receive the donor's name and information, unless some other form of protection were established.
