Frumvarpið leggur til stofnun Hálendisþjóðgarðs til verndar náttúrufars, sögu og menningar miðhálendisins. Þjóðgarðurinn myndi ná yfir þjóðlendur innan miðhálendislínu og þegar friðlýst svæði, með það að markmiði að vernda náttúruna en jafnframt gefa almenningi aðgang að útivist og styrkja byggð í nágrenni þjóðgarðsins.
The bill proposes the establishment of the Highland National Park to protect the nature, history and culture of the central highlands. The national park would cover public lands within the highland boundary line and already protected areas, with the goal of protecting nature while also providing public access to outdoor recreation and strengthening communities near the national park.
