Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að stofna sérstaka vöktun sem fylgist með kynjajafnrétti á Alþingi. Vöktin myndi rannsaka hvort og hvernig kyn hefur áhrif á það að komast að völdum og ákvörðunum, og hvort Alþingi og stjórnvöld framfylgja lögunum um jafnrétti. Tillagan var flutt vegna þess að konur eru langt minni hluti þeirra sem sitja á þjóðþingum um heiminn, og það er þörf á að gera sannarlega athugun á jafnrétti hér á Íslandi. Ef tillagan samþykkist myndu fólk úr mismunandi flokkum og beggja kynja vinna saman að því að safna gögnum um konur og karla í völdum og stjórnunarstöðum. Vöktin myndi gefa forseta Alþingis árskýrslu með niðurstöðum sínum, sem myndi síðan bera fyrir Alþingi til umræðu.
This parliamentary resolution proposes creating a special gender monitoring unit to track gender equality at the Icelandic Parliament. The unit would investigate whether and how gender affects people's access to elected positions and decision-making, and whether Parliament and government agencies follow gender equality laws. The resolution was put forward because women make up far less than half of those serving in parliaments around the world, and there is a need for a serious examination of equality here in Iceland. If the resolution passes, people from different political parties and both genders would work together to collect data about women and men in elected and leadership positions. The monitoring unit would submit an annual report to Parliament's president with its findings, which would then be presented to Parliament for discussion.
