Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felst í því að endurnýja Kjalveg, sem er gömul og mikilvæg leið milli norður- og suðurhluta landsins. Tillagan hefur verið lögð fram mörgum sinnum áður en hefur ekki náð fram að ganga. Hún er lögð fram núna vegna þess að vegurinn er orðinn mjög slæmur og ekki hægt er að nota hann stóran hluta ársins, en margt fólk myndu geta notað hann ef hann væri betri, ekki síst ferðamenn. Ef tillagan nær fram myndu private fyrirtæki standa fyrir endurbótum og vegurinn væru bættur og lagður með betri slitlagi þannig að hægt væri að halda honum opnum lengri hluta ársins og bæta samgöngur milli landshluta.
This parliamentary resolution proposes to rebuild the Kjölur road, which is an old and important route between the northern and southern parts of Iceland. The resolution has been submitted several times before but did not pass. It is being put forward now because the road has fallen into disrepair and cannot be used for much of the year, yet many people, especially tourists, would use it if it were better. If the resolution passes, a private company would carry out the improvements and the road would be rebuilt with better materials so it could be kept open for a longer part of the year and improve transportation between regions.
