Skýrsla velferðarnefndar fjallar um aðbúnað og meðferð fullorðins fatlaðs fólks með þroskahömlun og fullorðinna með geðrænan vanda á Íslandi. Hún var lögð fram vegna nýlegra frétta um slæman aðbúnað á Arnarholti og bréfs frá Landssamtökunum Þroskahjálp og Geðhjálp þar sem óskað var eftir óháðri rannsókn á aðbúnaði og meðferð þessara hópa undanfarin 80 ár. Nefndin skrifaði skýrsluna til að skoða hvernig best væri að framkvæma slíka rannsókn og hverjir lagalegir valkostir væru fyrir hendi.
This welfare committee report examines the accommodation and treatment of disabled adults with developmental disabilities and adults with mental health issues in Iceland. It was submitted following recent news reports about poor conditions at the Arnarholti facility and a letter from the national organizations for developmental and mental health support requesting an independent investigation into care over the past 80 years. The committee conducted the inquiry to determine how best to conduct such an investigation and what legal frameworks could be used to carry it out.
