Þessi þingsályktunartillaga fjallar um hvernig skilgreina á landamæri fiskveiðilanda við Ísland, sem kallast netlög. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að endalaust rugl er um þennan hlut, þar sem gömul skilgreining úr Jónsbók (frá miðöldum) hefur verið tekin út úr lögum síðan 1919 og engir vita alveg hvernig marka á netlögin rétt. Tillagan felur í sér að biðja fiskveiðiráðherra um að rannsaka vandamálið og athuga hvort taka ætti gömlu skilgreininguna frá Jónsbók aftur inn í nútíma lög. Ef tillagan gangi til framkvæmda myndu nýjar eða endurbættar reglur um netlög koma inn í íslenska lögbók, sem myndu koma á meiri skýrleika og réttri skilgreiningu á þessum mikilvæga svæðum fyrir fiskveiðar.
This parliamentary resolution addresses how to define the fishing boundaries around Iceland, known as territorial sea baselines. The resolution was put forward because there is considerable confusion on this issue, as an old definition from Jónsbók (medieval law) was removed from current laws in 1919 and nobody is quite sure how to properly mark these boundaries today. The resolution asks the fisheries minister to investigate the problem and consider whether to bring the old Jónsbók definition back into modern Icelandic law. If passed, the resolution would lead to new or improved rules about territorial sea baselines being added to Iceland's laws, which would bring greater clarity and proper definition to these important fishing areas.
