Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að fólk sem borgar útvarpsgjald fái að velja sjálf hvert það fer með hluta þess gjalds. Í dag þurfa allir að borga fastri fjárhæð til Ríkisútvarpsins, en tillagan myndi leyfa fólki að senda allt að þriðjungi gjaldsins til annarra fjölmiðla ef það vilji. Flutningsmenn tillögunnar halda að Ríkisútvarpið sé of stórkyrr og að það dragi úr fjölbreytni fjölmiðlamarkaðarins. Með því að gera fólki kleift að stuðla að öðrum fjölmiðlum myndu fleiri útgáfur og skoðanir komast til sjálfs, sem myndi styrkja lýðræðið og gera umræðu þjóðarinnar ríkari.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that people who pay broadcasting fees be allowed to choose where part of that money goes. Currently, everyone must pay a fixed amount to Iceland's public broadcaster, but the proposal would let people direct up to one-third of their fee to other media outlets of their choice. The sponsors argue that the public broadcaster has become too dominant and is reducing media diversity in the country. By allowing people to support other media, more different voices and viewpoints would flourish, which they believe would strengthen democracy and enrich public debate.
