Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felur í sér að stofna nefnd til að semja tillögur um minnisvarða fyrir eldgosin í Surtsey og Heimaey. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að árið 2023 munu 60 ár hafa liðið frá Surtseyjargosinu árið 1963 og 50 ár frá Heimaeyjargosinu árið 1973, og því ætti að muna þessa stærstu atburði í náttúrsögu Íslands. Nefndin samanstendur af fimm fulltrúum frá Alþingi, Vestmannaeyjum og forsætisráðherra og myndu leggja fram tillögur fyrir árslok 2022. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu minnisvarðir reisir upp árið 2023 til minningar um þessa mikilvægu eldgosa, og ríkisstjórn myndu setja fjármagn til verkefnisins.
This parliamentary resolution proposes creating a committee to develop proposals for memorials honoring the volcanic eruptions in Surtsey and Heimaey.
