Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að Ísland undirskrifi og samþyki viðbótarbókun við alþjóðasamning um efnahagsleg, félagsleg og menningarleg réttindi. Bókunin var samþykkt af Sameinuðu þjóðum árið 2008 og stofnar nefnd sem getur dæmt um brot á réttindum fólks í efnahags-, félags- og menningarmálum. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að 49 önnur ríki hafa þegar gert þetta og bókunin hefur reynst virk síðan 2013. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu Íslendingar geta kært sig til alþjóðakærunefndar ef þeir telja að stjórnvöld brjóti gegn efnahagslegum og félagslegum réttindum þeirra, líkt og rétti til vinnu, heilsugæslu og menntunar.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that Iceland sign and ratify an optional protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The protocol was adopted by the United Nations in 2008 and creates a committee that can judge violations of people's economic, social, and cultural rights. The proposal was brought forward because 49 other countries have already done this and the protocol has been active since 2013. If the resolution passes, Icelanders would be able to file complaints with an international committee if they believe the government violates their economic and social rights, such as the right to work, healthcare, and education.
