Þessi þingsályktunartillaga biður Alþingi um leyfi til að staðfesta tvo samninga sem Ísland gerði við Noreg og Danmörku (fyrir hönd Færeyja) árið 2019. Samningarnir fjalla um það hvar landgrunnur Íslands endar og landgrunnur hinna landanna byrjar í svæðinu við Síldarsmugan, sem er svæði sem liggur milli Færeyja, Íslands, Noregs og Jan Mayen. Ísland hefur þurft að semja um þetta vegna þess að það á erfitt með að seðja um sum svæðin með því einu sér og þurfti því að gera samkomulag við nágrannaland sín. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga mun Ísland geta staðfest þessa samninga opinberlega og verða þau bindandi fyrir landið, sem þýðir að skýr mörk verða sett fyrir íslenska landgrunninn á þessu svæði.
This parliamentary resolution asks Iceland's parliament to approve two agreements that Iceland signed with Norway and Denmark (on behalf of the Faroe Islands) in 2019. These agreements define where Iceland's continental shelf ends and where the continental shelves of the neighboring countries begin in the area around the Herring Pocket, located between the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Jan Mayen.
