Þessi þingsályktunartillaga fjallar um breytingu á reglum fyrir eldri fólk sem flytur á dvalar- og hjúkrunarheimili. Í dag missa eldri borgarar ellilífeyri sinn þegar þeir flytja á heimilið og fá aðeins um 80.000 krónur á mánuði í vasapeningum til allra útgjalda. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að Landssamband eldri borgara og aðrir hafa lengi talið að þetta kerfi myndar eldri fólk erfitt á og svipar til þess að taka frá þeim sjálfræði og peningana. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu eldri borgarar halda fullum ellilífeyri sínum og greiða í staðinn beint fyrir húsaleigu, mat og annan kostnað. Þeir myndu einnig geta fengið húsnæðisbætur og væru ekki neyddir til að deyja út á vasapeningum.
This parliamentary resolution addresses changing the rules for elderly people who move into care and nursing homes. Currently, elderly citizens lose their pension when they move into such facilities and receive only about 80,000 kronur per month in pocket money for all expenses. The proposal was put forward because the National Association of Senior Citizens and others have long believed this system treats elderly people unfairly and strips them of their independence and money. If the resolution passes, elderly people would keep their full pensions and instead pay directly for rent, food, and other household costs. They would also be able to receive housing benefits and would not be forced to survive on meager pocket money.
