Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felur í sér að Ísland ætti að hætta við að senda flóttafólk til Grikklands, Ítalíu og Ungverjalands, jafnvel þó að fólkið hafi þegar fengið vernd þar. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að aðstæður í þessum löndum eru slæmar fyrir flóttafólk – það hefur ekki nægilegan stuðning og getur verið fyrir ómannúðlegri meðferð. Ísland hefur sjálf metið þessi lönd óhentug fyrir flóttafólk og hætti að senda þangað árið 2010 og 2015, en hefur þó endalaust sent fólk þangað ef það hafði þegar fengið vernd. Ef tillagan gildir myndu íslensk stjórnvöld ekki geta sent neinn til þessara þriggja landa, sem myndu tryggja betri vernd fyrir flóttafólk.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that Iceland should stop sending refugees to Greece, Italy, and Hungary, even if those individuals have already been granted protection in those countries. It was put forward because conditions for refugees in these countries are poor – they lack adequate support and face inhumane treatment. Iceland itself determined these countries unsuitable for refugees and stopped sending people there in 2010 and 2015, yet has continued returning people if they already had protection there. If passed, Icelandic authorities would no longer be able to send anyone to these three countries, which would ensure better protection for refugees.
