Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felst í því að fela ríkisstjórninni að draga til baka umsókn Íslands um aðild að Evrópusambandinu. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að meira en 10 ár eru liðin síðan Ísland sótti um að ganga í Evrópusambandið, en það hefur ekki komið neitt úr því og viðræðum var hætt fyrir 8 árum. Það er óljóst hvort Evrópusambandið telur umsóknina enn gilda eða ekki, og því vilja þeir sem leggja fram tillöguna gera það skýrt með alþingisályktun. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndi Ísland opinberlega afturkalla umsóknina og væru engar hendur til þess að deildin teljist umsóknarríki gagnvart Evrópusambandinu.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that the government officially withdraw Iceland's application for membership in the European Union. The resolution was put forward because more than 10 years have passed since Iceland applied to join the EU, but nothing has come of it and negotiations were suspended 8 years ago. It is unclear whether the European Union still considers the application valid or not, so those proposing this want to make it clear through a parliamentary resolution.
