This parliamentary resolution proposes allowing farmers to hunt swans, greylag geese, pink-footed geese, and whooper swans outside the normal hunting season during specific periods when these birds cause significant damage to cultivated land. The resolution was put forward because these birds eat large amounts of vegetation and crops, and their populations have grown considerably in recent years, making it difficult for farmers. If passed, farmers would have opportunities to control bird damage during expanded seasons—for example, hunting swans in grain fields from May to October and geese in meadows and fields from March to June. The environmental minister would also be required to develop a comprehensive management plan for swan and goose populations in Iceland to balance bird protection with farmers' interests.
